This page is a VERY opinionated guide (list of tips + thoughts on strategies) from the past year of recruiting. A couple caveats:
- My journey is probably not your journey!
- There are probably different strategies if you’re looking in specific niches (quant, ML) or have a different set of experiences from me — I definitely encourage you to reach out to people who are similar to you to learn more about their journey :)
- This guide is very much opinionated, and drawn from my personal experience — it’s totally possible that some things I say are outdated, caveated or just straight up wrong. Don’t take everything I say as truth!
- This guide is most relevant to New Grads, but it’s mostly (like 85%) relevant to those looking for internships too — feel free to reach out if you have any questions!
- There are definitely places where I’m missing content — please reach out to me if you think there’s anything I should add or if you want more in-depth opinion on something I said!
- Also feel free to reach out to me if you need help with any of the following things:
- Resume (or Linkedin Reviews)
- Mock Interviews
- Setting up a system to apply for jobs
- Talking through your Offer
- Talking through anything else in the journey!
- I don’t bite (really!), and I’ll be happy to talk to you whenever I can in my schedule — feel free to reach out too about internship questions :)
This guide tracks the recruiting journey from start to end. A list of sections:
- Getting prepped (your resume, LinkedIn, emotional preparation)
- Getting the first interview (referrals, applying, networking)
- Getting through your interviews (mocks, technical tips for general SWE)
- Getting the offer (compensation, negotiation, reneging)
Ok let’s get started! But first a sidebar:
- What makes New Grad recruiting different from recruiting for internships?
